After I graduated the University of Arizona in 2024 with a BFA in Film,
I moved the Old City of Jerusalem and learn in a Yeshiva.
So far I've been here for one year, and I think I've learned somethings along the way. Let me share:
1) Come during a GAP TIME (After College or after Highschool.)
To get the most out of Yeshiva, you need to be here for an extended period of time. The best time to do this is when you are not in the middle of schooling.
Of course coming for a summer or winter break is super valuable. A few hundred years ago people used to travel DAYS just to spend a few hours learning Torah in a Yeshiva.
But to get the MOST out of it, I would say you have to be here for a year.
This way you get to experience all of the holidays in Israel.
Giving you a strong foundation for continuing to connect with the holidays for the rest of your life.
The more time you spend in yeshiva, the more you learn, the stronger your connection will be to Judaism.
2) DON'T Pack Light
Remember, you're coming here for a year.
Settle in.
Spread your roots.

Millions of Jews
set up camp wherever the
Clouds of Glory in the Desert stopped.
You have followed the clouds of glory to Israel.
Time to set up camp.
Yes, it's a total shlep to take your things to the Yeshiva from the airport, but this is home now.
3) Buy flights as early as possible (preferably El Al)
Flights get expensive, try and buy them in advanced.
El Al is the safest option.
I had a United flight to Israel on my way to Yeshiva. It got cancelled because of some Iranian Missiles. El Al was the only airline flying.
I was very much regretting not flying with them.
Don't make the same mistake.
(But if you have to buy another airline, you'll still get there eventually)
There's no worse feeling than your Israel flight being cancelled.
4) ADAPTERS
They are so much cheaper here, in Israel they are so expensive and less durable
Get this adapter (maybe even two)
5) Journal
Write about your growth and track it
Concretizing your thoughts and ideas helps you gain a better understanding about yourself.
It’s super cool to be able to look back at past entries and see how much you’ve grown.
6) Delete Social Media
Lock in.
Don’t commit to deleting it forever, start with just a month
Your mind will be more clear without the distraction of the social media.
7) Meet with the Rabbis
Ask for advice about anything
Learn Torah with them one-on-one
They have been living wit Torah for a long time, so they're seen a thing or two
8) Download the Moovit App
If you decided to leave yeshiva for any reason (idk why you would) this app will help you navigate your way
It shows bus and train schedules
Can pay for the bus using this app
9) Go out for Shabbos
We all want to run Jewish homes in the future, so go to different Jewish homes
In Israel you have every single flavor of Judaism, go taste!
This is help you to know what kid of Jewish home you want to have
10) Grow SLOW
Other people might seems "ahead" of you or to be "growing faster", it's not true
They are them and you are you
Just because other people are wearing black pants and a white shirt, doesn't mean that you should right away. Don't just do something because it looks cool.
A good way to know what to do is if you begin to feel a little uncomfortable doing what you are doing. For example maybe you wear sandals in the Beis Medrish and feel totally fine, then a few weeks in, it just feels weird. Then it's probably time to change shoes.
